Bank of Namibia has issued its first banknote on Guardian™ polymer substrate with its new N$30. The new banknote celebrates 3 decades of independence, smooth transition of power between 3 presidents – Peace Stability and Progress. The Bank credits Guardian polymer substrate for a note that is more durable and secure.
The obverse of the note features Namibia’s three presidents over the past three decades; H.E. DR Sam Nujoma, H.E. DR Hifikepunye Pohamba, H.E. DR Hage G. Geingob. The reverse of the note and the large complex window depicts the endangered Namibian black rhino. The Namibian public is being encouraged to Look, Feel and Tilt in order to know the security features on the note. These security features include a large complex window with a Cameo image of a black rhino and gold to blue G-Switch design.
CCL Secure’s Senior Banknote designer Carlos Almenar created the design in collaboration with the Bank of Namibia. Commenting on the design Almenar said, “The Namibia 30th Independence Anniversary Commemorative Banknote project has a special meaning to CCL Secure, and to myself, as it has not only allowed me to contribute and collaborate with wonderful people from the Bank of Namibia but it also gave me an opportunity to learn more about the Republic of Namibia, its people and culture. It has certainly been an amazing experience for me from the initial stages all the way to the launch, an experience I will always cherish”
The commemorative note was launched on the 30th Anniversary of independence by the former Governor of the Bank of Namibia (now Minister of Finance), Mr Ipumbu Shiimi, and current President, H.E. DR Hage Geingob in the presence of the two former Presidents.
