CCL Secure is proud to have partnered with Brunei Darussalam Central Bank (BDCB) to produce five new GUARDIAN banknotes – the BND1, BND5, BND10, BND100 and BND500.
The five denominations upgrade existing GUARDIAN banknotes initially issued in 2011, adding enhanced security features that will continue to safeguard the integrity of Brunei Darussalam’s currency.
CCL Secure Vice President and Managing Director, Neil Sanders says: “The new GUARDIAN polymer notes are a triumph of design, security, and innovation – and a testament to BDCB.”
The new Brunei dollars will be issued during the first half of 2026 and circulate alongside existing currency – all printed on polymer,
“We thank the BDCB for its ongoing trust, and truly value this longstanding partnership, which mirrors the attributes of GUARDIAN polymer in its strength and durability,” Mr Sanders says.
The upgraded banknotes will remain recognisable to the public, retaining most design elements, and celebrating Brunei Darussalam’s national identity with striking portraits of esteemed leaders.
His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, is embossed on the BND1, BND5, BND10, and BND100 using intaglio printing.

The notes also feature floral patterns, including bunga jambangan, daun lukut, and calak kuya, alongside tactile raised elements that will support inclusive access for the visually impaired.
“Delivering this culturally resonate concept design required careful recalibration of the substrate design, and it has been an absolute pleasure to collaborate closely with the BDCB,” says Victor Godinez, Commercial Services Manager at CCL Secure.
Security Features
Additional security features have been integrated into the banknotes’ durable polymer core to ensure Brunei Darussalam’s currency continues to remain resilient against the evolving counterfeit threat.
The security features integrated into the substrate of the five new GUARDIAN banknotes include complex clear windows, which appear in full and half formats on each of the notes. These windows contain culturally significant motifs, including prominent mosques and local patterns.
Each of the five new GUARDIAN polymer banknotes also include the following security features:
AURORA™ – a dynamic combination of two colour-shifting G-SWITCH™ inks. Tilt the note to see the simultaneous set of colour transitions, at the window edge, and within a pattern.
METALIX™ – a breakthrough effect with brilliant sheen and lustrous colour. Tilt the banknote and a metallic sheen will appear as a vertical pattern in one of the three colours selected.
VIVID WHITE™ – a fluorescent ink that is revealed under exposure to ultraviolet light. It enhances multiple elements of each new note, complementing coloured fluorescent inks.
The new banknotes also feature shadow images, ultraviolet elements, and third-party security features. You can view features and individual banknote elements by visiting the BDCB website.
